1. Who We Are
RealMeet is a dating application operated by RealMeet UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Germany. We are the data controller for personal data processed via the RealMeet app and website (real-meet.de).
Data Protection Contact: privacy@real-meet.de
2. What Data We Collect
2.1 Account Data
When you register, we collect your email address, date of birth (to verify you are 18+), and the profile information you choose to provide (name, photos, bio, preferences).
2.2 Verification Data
Identity verification is currently conducted manually by specially authorised RealMeet reviewers. When you choose to complete identity verification, you voluntarily submit a selfie and an identity document solely so that an authorised reviewer can confirm your identity and help prevent fraud, impersonation, and misuse of the service.
The identity document may be a passport, national identity card, or driver's licence. During the live-photo (liveness) step we collect a live photo or short image sequence to confirm that a real, present person is completing the process.
Your verification images are reviewed only by authorised reviewers who need access to perform the verification. They are not shown to other users, are not processed by automated facial-recognition or biometric software, and are not used for advertising, profiling, matching, ranking, recommendations, or marketing. RealMeet does not create or retain biometric templates, facial embeddings, facial vectors, facial landmarks, or facial-recognition profiles from the submitted images.
After the verification decision is completed, your raw selfie and identity-document images are automatically and securely deleted, together with the underlying storage objects and file references (see Section 4). Only a limited, non-image verification record is retained.
2.3 Usage Data
We collect logs of your interactions with the app (matches, messages, reports) to operate the service, enforce our Community Guidelines, and prevent fraud.
2.4 Device Data
We collect device identifiers, IP address, and operating system version for security and fraud prevention purposes.
2.5 Access to Verification Documents
Access to selfie images and identity documents submitted for verification is restricted to authorised reviewers who require it to carry out the verification, and each access is logged for security, audit, and abuse-prevention purposes. While a verification document is available for review, it is served only through short-lived, access-controlled links.
3. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR Art. 6 & Art. 9)
| Purpose | Legal Basis |
|---|---|
| Providing the dating service | Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Liveness verification | Explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)) |
| Manual identity verification (selfie & ID documents) | Explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)); Legitimate interests — fraud prevention and user safety (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Admin access logging for verification documents | Legitimate interests — security and audit (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Safety & fraud prevention | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Legal obligations | Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) |
| Marketing communications | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) |
4. How Long We Keep Your Data
Account data is retained as long as your account is active. After account deletion, personal data is deleted within 30 days unless retention is required by law (e.g. transaction records for tax purposes).
Raw verification images — your selfie and identity-document images, together with the underlying storage objects and file references — are automatically and securely deleted after the verification decision is completed (whether approved or rejected). The same automatic deletion applies when a submission is replaced by a newer one, when unfinished uploads are cleaned up (unconfirmed uploads are removed within about 24 hours), and to any remaining verification files when you delete your account. Live-photo (liveness) images are used only for the liveness check and are deleted automatically once that check is complete.
Limited verification record. After the raw images are deleted, we retain a limited, non-image verification record for account integrity, audit, security, fraud and impersonation prevention, abuse prevention, legal obligations, service statistics, and aggregated market insights. This record is not anonymised and may include the verification result and status, the reviewer and decision timestamps, moderator notes, the document type, the issuing country, the document validity date, and the last four characters of the document number (never the full number). It may also include the reviewed identity details taken from your document — such as your first name, last name, and date of birth — a record that the live-photo (liveness) step was completed, and related security and audit records. This is a non-image record: we do not retain the raw selfie or identity-document images, and we do not retain any biometric data.
Aggregated market insights. We may use minimised, aggregated, or appropriately anonymised or pseudonymised information (for example, verification volumes, success rates, document types, issuing countries, and age bands) to understand and improve the service and to generate aggregated market insights. These insights are never derived from the deleted images, from full document numbers, or from any biometric templates, facial embeddings, or facial-recognition data, and they cannot be used to reconstruct the deleted images.
We do not keep raw verification images longer than necessary for the purposes described above. You may request deletion in accordance with your rights under applicable data protection law (see Section 6), subject to any applicable retention exceptions.
5. Who We Share Data With
We do not sell your personal data or share it with third parties for advertising, marketing, or commercial purposes.
Your personal data may only be disclosed in the following limited circumstances:
- Cloud infrastructure — Your data is securely hosted on infrastructure located in Nürnberg, Germany, and is stored and processed in accordance with applicable European Union (GDPR) and German data protection laws.
- Law enforcement or competent authorities — Only where required by applicable law or where necessary to protect the safety, rights, or security of our users or the public.
RealMeet never stores or accesses your bank credentials or banking account details.
The mandatory identity verification process is performed entirely through manual review by authorized and verified RealMeet Moderators. RealMeet does not use third-party identity verification providers or automated facial recognition services to verify users' identities.
