Verification

Every profile. Genuinely verified.

RealMeet uses live image authentication to confirm that every member is a real, present person. Here is exactly how it works, what we capture, and how we protect your data.

What is live image authentication?

Live image authentication — also called liveness detection — is a real-time process that confirms a live person is in front of the camera during sign-up. It prevents the use of static profile photos, pre-recorded videos, deepfakes, and other automated media to create accounts.

During the check, you will be guided through a brief series of natural facial movements. These are analysed in real time to confirm genuine human presence. The entire process takes a few seconds.

What liveness detection confirms

  • A real, present person completed the check — not a photo or video
  • The person is physically present in real time during sign-up
  • No automated script, bot, or pre-recorded media was used

What it does not confirm

  • Your legal identity or name — this requires the optional enhanced check below
  • That your profile photos match your real appearance over time
  • Any guarantee of future honest or safe behaviour on the platform

Your verification data

CapturedA short live video or image sequence, processed to compute a liveness result.
RetainedThe liveness result (pass/fail) is stored on your account. Raw image data is deleted per our retention policy (see Privacy Policy).
SharedRaw biometric data is not shared with third parties for commercial purposes. It may be processed by our verification provider under a strict data-processing agreement.
Legal basisProcessing of biometric-adjacent data is based on your explicit consent (GDPR Article 9(2)(a)), given at the time of verification.
Optional

Enhanced identity verification

For members who want to demonstrate a higher level of authenticity, RealMeet offers optional enhanced identity verification.

This is facilitated through eIDAS-compliant identity providers and/or Open Banking authentication — bank-grade identity verification methods used across the EU.

Important: what RealMeet does not do

  • RealMeet does not request, receive, or store your bank account credentials or passwords.
  • We do not access your bank account balance, transaction history, or any financial data.
  • The identity confirmation step is handled entirely by the regulated third-party identity provider — RealMeet only receives a verified identity confirmation result.
  • Enhanced verification is entirely optional. Declining it does not prevent you from using RealMeet.

How the eIDAS / Open Banking check works

1

You initiate the optional check

From your profile settings, you choose to complete enhanced verification.

2

You are redirected to the identity provider

You are taken to a regulated, independent eIDAS-compliant identity service. RealMeet is not present in this flow.

3

You authenticate with your bank or ID document

The identity provider verifies your identity using their established process. No data from this step is shared with RealMeet beyond the result.

4

RealMeet receives a confirmation

We receive a simple verified/not-verified result. Your Identity Verified badge is added to your profile.

Verification badges

✅ Live Verified

The member completed the live selfie check at sign-up. Confirms a real person is behind the profile. Awarded to all RealMeet members.

🔷 Identity Verified

The member completed optional enhanced identity verification via an eIDAS-compliant provider. A higher level of assurance about legal identity.

Verification badges indicate that the described check was completed at the time of verification. They do not constitute a guarantee of the member's ongoing identity, intentions, or behaviour. RealMeet is designed to reduce the risk of fake profiles but cannot guarantee the authenticity of all content posted by verified members.

Your rights regarding biometric data

Under GDPR, data that can be used to identify you from biometric characteristics is treated as special-category data requiring explicit consent and additional safeguards.

  • You can withdraw your verification consent at any time by deleting your account.
  • You can request a copy of what biometric data we hold and how long it is retained.
  • Raw verification images are deleted after the retention period defined in our Privacy Policy.
  • You have the right to complain to your national data protection authority if you believe we have mishandled your data.
