RealMeet uses live image authentication to confirm that every member is a real, present person. Here is exactly how it works, what we capture, and how we protect your data.
What is live image authentication?
Live image authentication — also called liveness detection — is a real-time process that confirms a live person is in front of the camera during sign-up. It prevents the use of static profile photos, pre-recorded videos, deepfakes, and other automated media to create accounts.
During the check, you will be guided through a brief series of natural facial movements. These are analysed in real time to confirm genuine human presence. The entire process takes a few seconds.
What liveness detection confirms
- ✓A real, present person completed the check — not a photo or video
- ✓The person is physically present in real time during sign-up
- ✓No automated script, bot, or pre-recorded media was used
What it does not confirm
- ✗Your legal identity or name — this requires the optional identity check below
- ✗That your profile photos match your real appearance over time
- ✗Any guarantee of future honest or safe behaviour on the platform

Identity verification
For members who want to demonstrate a higher level of authenticity, RealMeet offers optional identity verification. It is currently conducted manually by specially authorised RealMeet reviewers.
You voluntarily submit a selfie and an identity document solely so that an authorised reviewer can confirm your identity and help prevent fraud, impersonation, and misuse of the service. After the decision, your raw images are automatically and securely deleted.
Important: what RealMeet does not do
- ⚠RealMeet does not create or retain biometric templates, facial embeddings, facial vectors, or facial-recognition profiles from your images.
- ⚠Your verification images are never shown to other users and are not used for advertising, profiling, matching, ranking, recommendations, or marketing.
- ⚠Your images are not shared with an external identity-verification provider — the review is carried out in-house by authorised RealMeet reviewers.
- ⚠Identity verification is entirely optional. Declining it does not prevent you from using RealMeet.
How the manual identity check works
You start the optional check
From your profile settings, you choose to complete identity verification and submit a selfie.
You submit an identity document
You provide a copy of a government-issued identity document (passport, national ID card, or driver’s licence).
An authorised reviewer checks it
A specially authorised RealMeet reviewer manually compares the selfie and document to confirm your identity. Access is restricted and logged; no automated facial recognition is used.
A decision is made and images are deleted
Once the decision is completed, your Identity Verified badge is added where appropriate, and your raw selfie and document images are automatically and securely deleted — only a limited, non-image record is kept.

The member completed optional identity verification through manual review of a selfie and identity document by authorised RealMeet reviewers. A higher level of assurance about legal identity.
Verification badges indicate that the described check was completed at the time of verification. They do not constitute a guarantee of the member's ongoing identity, intentions, or behaviour. RealMeet is designed to reduce the risk of fake profiles but cannot guarantee the authenticity of all content posted by verified members.
Your rights regarding verification data
Under GDPR, the live-photo and identity data processed during verification is treated as special-category data requiring explicit consent and additional safeguards. RealMeet does not create or retain biometric templates or facial-recognition profiles.
- •You can withdraw your verification consent at any time by deleting your account.
- •You can request a copy of the limited verification record we hold and how long it is retained.
- •Your raw selfie and identity-document images are deleted automatically after the verification decision, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- •You have the right to complain to your national data protection authority if you believe we have mishandled your data.
